Candles for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

If everyone around the world lights a candle at 7pm on October 15th, we will create a Wave Of Light in memory of all of the babies that have been taken from us too soon.

The past 3 years I have hosted a candle decorating party with local moms. We used butterfly, dragonfly, and flower rub-ons and stickers to decorate simple glass votives ($6/dozen at Big Lots). The stickers are an easy way for the kids to participate.

The first year we had over a dozen MOMS filling my craftroom to make candles for themselves or give to family. I made one to send to each of Rowan's grandmothers and aunts from here to New York. We were actually in Yosemite National Park the first year, and burned our candle on the table in the restaurant we were having dinner at that night. The groups have gotten smaller each year, as many moms save their candles from year to year. But we have a great, relaxing time, making candles, sharing stories, and drinking coffee.

This year I will be at the La Leche League Area Conference in Seattle on October 15th, so I have offered to host a candle decorating table and to set up a place for them to be burned that evening at the conference. In a group of that many mothers there are undoubtedly quite a few who have experienced a loss.
