I chose the name ReCrochetions, because I love to recreate what I see every day in yarn (Re-Crochet). Whether flat in my
intarsia colorwork or 3-dimentional toys for my kids, everything I see has potential in crochet. I have a growing collection of photos on my phone taken everywhere I go: tilework at the Japanese gardens, the strap on someone's shirt, a greeting card, garments I see in stores (mostly knit), the bracelet a barista at Starbucks was wearing (taken from the drive-thru).
When I was brainstorming submissions for this year's
Vogue Knitting's Crochet issue, I had a LOT of fun exploring recent runway collections and sketching out ideas for on-trend shapes and textures I thought I could create in crochet. I Pinned pictures, took notes, sketched ideas, and played with yarn.
In the end, the particular design that was chosen for that issue (the "
Cap-Sleeve Top") was inspired by a lacy knit cabled top that I saw a woman wearing in the airport last fall. I sneakily snapped a couple pictures on my phone, as I tend to do whenever I see a garment, texture, color combo, or pattern that inspires me.
Where do you find inspiration?
