Flat Hdc Decrease or
Hdc-Sc-Decrease (hdc-sc-tog) Tutorial
Combined with an increase for smoother lines between color changes, this decrease creates a flatter stitch than the typical hdc2tog by using one less yarn over, making your finished fabric less bumpy when you are using a lot of increases and decreases (find LH tutorial here).
A. Work up to last two stitches of old color.
B. Decrease over next 2 stitches as follows: yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull up loop out of stitch, insert in next stitch, yarn over, pull up loop; drop old color to back of work, yarn over with new color.
C. Pull new color through all four loops on hook.
D. Flip dropped yarn up between hook and new yarn before working next stitch.
E. Increase
by working 2 hdc into Late Color Change of previous row, as well as under the strand of yarn created by changing to the new color on the previous decrease.
In order to maintain the same number of stitches per row, each decrease will always be followed by an increase, and vice versa.
