Bollywood Dancey Dance 2nd Birthday Party

When my daughter's 2nd birthday was approaching, I could not decide on a theme. She was really into Yo Gabba Gabba and dressing up but I did not want just another Gabba themed party. Then when I was out Bollywood dancing with my sister earlier that month, I suddenly had an inspiration!

Preparing the activities and party favors is always half the fun for me. I ordered a bunch of Silk Scarves in various sizes which I hand-dyed, Bangles and bracelets in kids sizes (tied together in bunches for easier use by toddlers) for playing dress-up. I made Ribbon Wands with wooden handles, and felted a bunch of Crocheted Crowns (pattern on news stands now in Interweave Crochet's 2014 Accessories magazine!). Each child went home with one of each as party favors.

I found an Indian market, where I could get supplies for making real Mango Lassi and Chai Tea. I ordered food from a local Indian restaurant (great excuse to order a bunch of yummy food), and they even leant me some Bollywood music CDs for the kids to dance to. We used the silk scarves and ribbon wands to lead them through various dance movements and then they just had fun moving to the music. Then the kiddoes donned their Crowns and went outside to chase bubbles!

All in all, it was great fun for the kids and grownups alike! I was waiting until this pattern was published to post about this party. Who knows how long it will be until I get to post about her 3rd and 4th (which I'm planning now). But I have crocheted party favors every year for her!
